The 5 best places in Amsterdam to hide from the rain

If we can say one thing about Dutch weather, it’s this: no matter the season, it will rain. So, because you’re now in Amsterdam anyway, better make the most of your time here, right? We give you the five best places in Amsterdam to hide from the rain.

The OBA is the central library of Amsterdam, next to central station, and has multiple levels FULL OF BOOKS. It’s awesome. If you are a bookworm you will find yourself having a good time for at least a whole rainy day. If you get hungry from all the eating, go to Vapiano, an Italian restaurant with reallll good pastas, pizza and dolce.

MOCO Museum
The Moco Museum is the place to be if you like modern art. If you like Banksy, even more. Go wander around and find artpieces never shown before, but gathered by Banksy-enthusiasts all over the world. If it stops raining for five minutes, you can run to the next museum, because Museumsquare is full of them. If you want to know how to spend a full day in Amsterdam without getting bored, Moco is also a good way to kill a few hours.

Nieuwe Kerk
The Nieuwe Kerk has a lot of nice expositions throughout the year. For example, it’s the host of the World Press Photo 2019, starting in April. So, if it’s raining and you like photography, this is your place to be (issa rhyme). Visit the website for more information.

Foodhallen, Filmhallen
If you go into the neighbourhood ‘Amsterdam West’, and then take the route to the Kinkerstraat, you’ll find with a bit of asking around, a hidden gem. This gem is called ‘de Hallen’ (the Halls). Best part? The foodhallen. You can eat your belly full with bao’s and gyoza’s, flammkuchen, pulled pork (pulled everything, basically), smoothiebowls, you name it. Everything a millennial foodie can ask for. Also available for you are two kinds of bars: one fancy cocktailbar and a regular one. It’s all very Instagrammable.

You had enough to eat? Go let it sink in while watching a movie in the filmhallen, next door. Kick back and relax.

Canalcruise (with roof and heater!)
If you are bummed out because the rain is stopping you from exploring the city, don’t be. Lock Luggage storage sells several tickets and one of them is for canalcruises. You’ll have a roof over your head ánd see all the beautiful things Amsterdam has to offer you. Winning!
