If you are walking around Venice, the city of gondola’s, carnavale and smelly but beautiful canals, but you have no clue on what to do next, no worries. We have got you covered. Here are five fun things to do in Venice.
Take a gondola ride
You know those movies (like The Tourist, with both Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie) where the two protagonists are having a romantic moment in a gondola with one of those singing ‘captains’? Right. You can experience such a moment yourself! The gondola, depending on which company you go to, will take you across the most important highlights, but also through small romantic canals where you have to duck down to protect your head.
Hop on a traghetto
If you get seasick from the wobbly gondola, a traghetto might be a better option for you. A traghetto is a bit more like a watertaxi, goes a lot faster and has room for a lot more people. So not as intimate as a gondolaride, but just as much fun.
Visit Murano Glass Museum
You will see the famous Murano glassworks everywhere around Venice, so why not go to the official Murano Glass Museum? It’s completely filled with beautiful glasswork and every piece is as beautiful as the next. Be careful not to break anything!
One of the most fun things to do in Venice is totally free and really easy: get lost. Get lost inside the maze of small streets and canals and take aaaaaalll the beautiful pictures. Besides all the nice spots for dinner or coffee are hidden in these backstreets. You won’t find those in your travelguide.
If you’ve always wanted to have your own unique ‘carnavale’ mask, Venice is your city. The artisan maskvendors are everywhere and paint plain white ones on the spot. Be carefull for rip offs!
